Silverstone Classic
XRW 302 was on display and on the track at the Silverstone classic weekend 24 - 26 July. The display on the Rootes car club stand told the Sunbeam Alpine story in a line up of cars. It was the first time XRW 302 had got on the silverstone track in 45 years. Don Tarbun, chief test engineer on the Alpine development programme, was also reunited with prototype Alpine XRW 302 for the first time in 45 years. Even Don's wife remembers the car from it's Bernard Unett racing days. 'Bernard got us polishing the bonnet between races to make it go faster' she joked. Test driver Mike Adlington, who drove the very first prototype Alpine, also visited the display.
