About Bernard Unett

Unett fitted a 4.7 liter engine with Weber carburetors to the Tiger, as well as uprating suspension and tyres. He had eleven outright wins and nine second place finishes in just over twenty races, and never failed to get placed, and coming a close second in the 'Autosport' championship in 1965. Opposite is Unett's Tiger in a race of the 1966 'Autosport' championship, trailing John miles 26R Lotus Elan. The bonnet of the Elan worked loose and Miles stoped in the pitts to have it removed. Miles re entered the race , going on to win. It was against the rules to race without a bonnet so Unett was expected to protest. No, he said, as everone was in such in awe of Miles incredible drive. Miles went on to win the 1966 championship, beating Unett by a short head when Unett's tiger had fan belt and axle problems in the last couple races in the championship.

Unett was racing for the Alan Fraser racing team by 1965. In 1964 Fraser began to develop the Hillman Imp for racing, thinking it had good potential for competing against the Mini Cooper 's'. They were soon proved right. Even with surprisingly standard Imps they were having great success, the Imp proving better on the corners than the Mini. Unett won first time out in Fraser's group five, 850 Imp. Opposite is Bernard Unett in a Alan Fraser Hillman Imp, leading Trevor Taylor's Ford Anglia in the R.A.C. Saloon car championship at Brands Hatch in 1966. This took place as part of the 'Gards' Trophy meeting.
