About Bernard Unett

In 1966 Bernard Unett, with Alan Fraser, built what was to become known as the 'monster' Tiger, Bernard Unett agreed to drive the car and both proved highly competitive, winning a number of races outright. This car is said to have been custom built for the 1966 'Autosport' champioship using parts from the first Tiger, but in the previous photo with the Lotus, Unett's first Tiger can clearly be seen, still in use at Brands Hatch in the Autosport championship in 1966. Unitt raced both cars in 1966, using both cars in different events, later dismantling the origonal Tiger to develop the 'Monster' Tiger. Unett came second overall in the 1966 Fred W Dixon Marque trophy in one of the Tigers.

In 1967 Fraser took the monster Tiger and some Imps to the fourth Gran Premio de Tenerife meeting in the Canery Islands, where I believe Bernard Unett also raced the car. After surviving in a barn for many years, the car was bought and restored by Chris Gruys from Los Angeles and is now raced in America, as pictured above at Monterey in 2003. Unett's previous Tiger has been restored in America and has also raced at Monterey. In 2003 it made a return trip to England to take part in the Goodwood revival meeting. Opposite is the monster Tiger racing in Tenerife in 1967.
